When visiting a packaging factory in Yorkshire England, Smyth watched the conveyer belt arm drop down and whisk away odd carrots. They were pushed aside and discarded. As the process continued he wondered, who defined which carrots were “beautiful enough” to be merchandised for sale and which of them became destined for pig feed!
